Running!

This weekend when so many of you will be spending time with your family, enjoying the spring weather (hopefully) and getting out and about with your babies I will be running! Running further than I have ever run before.

It seems since I've had children and run a business that that is all I do, I do the school run, I am always late so we run into school and then I rush home to go for a run. I am that Mum who looks like a headless chicken.

The running I do outside of school, family and business is all for a very special cause. I am running the London Marathon this year in memory of my friend Shona. Despite the tearing about I am not a natural runner, every step has been a challenge - a challenge in discipline, self control and motivation. Qualities I didn't think I had until I took a charity place for Pancreatic Cancer UK last year.

This weekend will be my longest run before the big day on April 22nd, 25 days from now. I walk, talk, sleep, eat and of course run that marathon over and over in my head. I can't wait to be there and for it to be over. It is the hardest thing I've ever done.

I am combining my leisure time and work to raise money for this cause, Sleepy Nico's charity carrier this year - called Alfie, is on sale in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK. £10 of every one sold goes to the charity and towards helping cure this awful disease.

My friend Shona was a runner, she was also an incredible mother, wife and friend and a role model to me. I hope that I can do her memory justice by running those 26.2 miles and raising awareness of the work of the charity.

Enjoy the holiday weekend and hold your children close, I will be thinking of you as I sneak out of my inlaws house and run 20 miles around and around their village on Easter Sunday and then come home to a big pile of chocolate eggs (I hope) and a lie down!
